What comes to mind when you think of North Wales? Rolling countryside? Sandy beaches? Quaint villages and queenly seaside resorts?

Maybe you should think again. How about soaring over Snowdonia on a zipline, playing golf in a cavern as big as a cathedral, seeing the Conwy Valley from the treetops or cruising the coastline at high speed?

We're proud to be the Adventure Capital of the UK; here's a few of our favourite adventure activities to get your blood pumping!

1. Adventure Parc Snowdonia - Conwy Valley

The world's first inland surf lagoon was built right here in North Wales. But Adventure Parc Snowdonia is so much more than just the waves these days. With a choice of high-octane activities for all ages, you can bike, hike, climb, surf, swim, spa and skate whatever the weather.

The main attraction is, of course, the wave garden, an inland lagoon equipped with a massive artificial wave machine. With designated areas for beginners and pros, plus a team of knowledgeable coaches, you can learn to surf safely in consistent conditions.

If you love the water but surf's not your bag, you might prefer to tackle the AquaParc instead. This 150m long inflatable floating assault course is great fun for all ages - just be prepared to get very wet!

When you need to slow things down a bit, take a break at the Surfside Deli, Bar & Kitchen and watch the action from the comfort of your seat.

2. Zipworld - various locations North Wales

From its beginnings at the Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda to the heady heights of Zipworld Fforest near Llanrwst and the plunging depths of Zipworld Caverns at Llechwedd, Zipworld has become a name synonymous with North Wales in recent years.

Zipworld's newest North Walian attraction has to be one of the most unique adventure experiences ever. Llechwedd Underground Golf - the first of its kind - is an 18 hole golf course in a disused slate cavern! Set over 4 floors you'll tackle a course that winds its way through the relics of Snowdonia's slate mining past.

Whether you're burning to ride the world's fastest zipwire or want to explore our world-famous subterranean slate landscape, these - and much more besides - can be done at Zipworld!

3. Go Below - near Betws-y-Coed

Snowdonia may be renowned for its stunning mountain peaks and dramatic landscapes but there's so much more to discover when you look down.

For the ultimate underground adventure, Go Below offer a range of caving experiences suitable for adrenaline junkies from age ten upwards. Challenges include climbing, boating, traversing, abseiling and zip-ling - you may even have the opportunity to descend to the deepest point in the UK.

4. Antur Stiniog - Blaenau Ffestiniog

With 14 challenging trials to choose from, Antur Stiniog is a mountain biker's Mecca. With routes to suite all ages and abilities, its a great place to hone your skills in stunning surroundings.

Set above the historic village of Blaenau Ffestiniog, you can bring you own bike or hire onsite. A regular uplift service throughout the day gets you to the start of the action fast and without fuss.

5. RibRide - Menai Bridge

A RIB or Rigid Inflatable Boat is a lightweight, slimline boat resembling a speedboat and, yep you guessed it, they are fast! RibRide offer a variety of coastline tours to suit adrenaline junkies AND those of us who like to take things a bit slower.

All tours showcase the most breathtaking coastal scenery in North Wales including the infamous Swellies, site of many a ship's demise, and wildlife-haven Puffin Island. Adventure seekers should opt for 'Bridges and Swellies' or 'Menai Sprint' tours for an action packed, once-in a-lifetime experience.
